Calibration Services
GPS Lands' specialty is to provide customised training for the users of Trimble products. We also provide servicing and repairs for all types of Total Stations, Digital Levels, etc.
Introduction
Due to survey work requirements, the instrument is being used stressfully most of the time under extreme weather conditions. Besides subjecting to bumpy transportation, it also has to be exposed to unfavorable weather conditions while working in dusty construction sites. Proper care is necessary in how the instrument is being used, stored and transported. Without having good maintenance practices, it will not only cause unjustified maintenance or repair costs, but may also affect the work efficiency of the entire survey as well as the instrument accuracy.
General Care of the Instrument
Surveying instruments which include total stations, theodolites, levels and GPS receivers, are specially designed and built to provide years of reliable use. Although the mechanical and electronic parts of all these precision instruments are fabricated for rugged field conditions, it can still cause damages by a careless act or continued lack of attention to proper procedures for use and care of the instrument. All instruments should be kept as dry as possible, especially if they are to be stored over the night or for longer period of time. Never point the instrument lens directly at the sun, as the focused rays of the sun may damage sensitive internal parts.
Adjustment (Calibration)
Adjustment is one of the major factors in the completion of the survey. When an instrument has been damaged or otherwise requires major adjustments, it will need to be sent to an authorized service centre. EDM should be checked on a calibration baseline at least once every year. Every instrument, whether radio or light beam measuring, has an inherent plus or minus error in every measurement, plus a small error based on parts per million of the distance measured. These errors are generally insignificant in the overall survey, but the surveyor should be aware that they are present and that there is no such thing as an exact measurement.
